What Aurora is
What is Aurora Finance?
Aurora is a money app for people whose life spans more than one country. You keep one ledger for each country you live or bank in, each in that country’s own currency. You can see exactly where you stand in each one, without exchange rates muddying the picture.
Why one ledger per country? Other apps put everything in one total.
A single total quietly converts everything at today’s rate. Your Korean rent, your Hong Kong salary and your Dubai savings then seem to rise and fall with exchange rates, even when nothing in your life changed.
Aurora keeps each currency in its own ledger, so a budget in won stays in won. When you do want the whole picture, the Cross-Ledger Report converts everything on demand, shows the rate and the date it used, and breaks the total down by ledger.
Who is Aurora for?
- Families split across countries. For example, one partner works in Dubai while the rest of the family lives in India. Each country gets its own ledger, and the whole family sees and manages them together in one household.
- Expats and people who move between countries.
- Anyone who wants a clear, save-first budget, even if all your money is in one country today.
How is Aurora different from other money apps?
- Built for more than one currency. Each country gets its own ledger, and there is no misleading combined total.
- No bank login. Aurora never asks for your online banking password.
- It reads what your bank already sends you: card text messages, e-mailed receipts, receipt photos and statement files.
- Save first. Income minus savings is what you can spend.
Is Aurora a bank? Does it move my money?
No. Aurora is a record of your money, not a bank or a lender. It never holds, moves, lends or invests your money.
Does Aurora give financial advice?
No. Aurora shows you your own numbers clearly. It does not recommend investments or financial products.
Availability
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes, on the web today. The iPhone and Android apps are in review with Apple and Google, so until they are released you can use Aurora in your browser.
You create your account and your first ledger on the web either way.
The mobile app is launching country by country, because each country needs its own card messages and bank statements supported first. We’ll announce each new country in our product update e-mail, so stay tuned.
What can I do in the app and what only on the web?
- App only: reading card text messages, receipt photos and Face ID lock.
- Web only: statement import, export, buying a plan, investments, reconciliation and the Monthly Letter.
- Both: everything else.
Which countries and currencies does Aurora support?
You can open a ledger in any of these 31 countries, each in its own currency, with exchange rates for every one of them:
- Asia: China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
- Middle East: Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
- Europe: France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
- Americas: Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the United States.
- Oceania and Africa: Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
Card text messages are read automatically in Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and the UAE. Statement files are read by AI, from any bank in any of these countries.

Which languages?
English and Korean.
Getting your money in
Does Aurora connect to my bank?
No. Aurora doesn’t use bank-connection services, and it never asks for your online banking login or password. Instead it reads what your bank and card company already send you:
- card payment text messages (in the app),
- receipts you forward by e-mail,
- photos of paper receipts,
- statement files (PDF, Excel, CSV or images).
You can also type a transaction in yourself.
Why don’t you connect to banks like other apps do?
Bank connections need your banking login or a third-party service with deep access to your accounts, and in many of the countries our members live in they don’t work well. Reading the messages and statements you already receive gives Aurora the same purchases without anyone ever holding your banking password.
We have no plans for bank connections today. We’d add one if it ever brought a clear benefit to our members.
Which banks and cards can Aurora read automatically?
Card text messages from:
- Korea: Shinhan, KB, Samsung, Hyundai, Hana, Woori, Lotte, NH, BC, KakaoBank, Toss Bank and K bank.
- Hong Kong: HSBC, Hang Seng Bank, Citibank, American Express and Bank of China (Hong Kong).
- Singapore: UOB.
- UAE: Emirates NBD, for card payments and for money moving in and out of your bank account (salary, transfers, cash withdrawals), and ADCB.
Statement files are read by AI, so they are not limited to a fixed list of banks. If one of your messages isn’t recognised, you can send us an example and we’ll add the format.
How does reading card text messages work on iPhone and Android?
- Android: you choose which bank and card senders Aurora may read. It can also bring in your messages from the last 7, 30 or 90 days.
- iPhone (iOS 17 or later): Apple doesn’t let apps read your messages. You set up a Shortcuts automation once, and it hands each card message to Aurora.
Either way, nothing is read until you agree, and you can turn it off at any time.
Does it work with messenger notifications or banking app alerts?
Not yet. Aurora reads text messages (SMS) only. It doesn’t read notifications from messaging apps, RCS messages or banking-app alerts.
Can I import my data from another app or a spreadsheet?
No. Aurora doesn’t import files exported from other apps. You can import your bank and card statement files, which brings in your past transactions.
How does Aurora handle a payment in another currency?
A purchase abroad is recorded in your ledger’s own currency, and the original amount and currency are kept beside it. You can correct the rate or amount to match your card bill, and set your card’s foreign-transaction fee so it is added automatically.
Where do your exchange rates come from?
- Most currencies: the European Central Bank’s daily reference rates.
- UAE dirham, Saudi riyal and Qatari riyal: their official fixed rate to the US dollar.
- Currencies the European Central Bank doesn’t publish, such as the Taiwan dollar, the Vietnamese dong and the Pakistani rupee: ExchangeRate-API.
Aurora checks for new rates several times a day. If the latest rate is more than a day old, Aurora tells you.
Security
Is my data safe?
- Hosting: your data is stored in Singapore on Amazon Web Services.
- Encryption: data is encrypted on its way to us (TLS), and the database is encrypted at rest (AES-256).
- Isolation: each household’s data is kept apart from every other household’s.
- Access: production systems are open only to the people who need them.
How do I sign in? Is there two-factor authentication?
- Ways to sign in: e-mail and password, Continue with Google, or Sign in with Apple on iPhone.
- Passwords: at least 12 characters, and stored only in a form that can’t be reversed.
- App lock: you can lock the app with Face ID, Touch ID or your fingerprint.
- Signing out elsewhere: you can sign out every other device at once.
- Two-factor sign-in: coming soon.
I found a security problem. Who do I tell?
E-mail [email protected] with what you found and how to reproduce it. Please leave out anyone’s personal or financial data, and give us reasonable time to fix it before you share it.
Privacy
What personal information do you collect?
Your e-mail address, the display name you choose, the money records you keep, and basic device and security information. That’s all we need.
We never collect:
- a government ID, passport number, date of birth or legal name,
- a home address or phone number,
- full account or card numbers (only the last or first four digits, to match transactions),
- banking logins, PINs or card details.
Do you sell my data or show ads?
No. We don’t sell, rent or trade your data, and there are no ads. You pay for Aurora with a subscription, so your data is not the product.
Aurora uses only the cookies it needs to sign you in and remember your settings, and none for ads or tracking.
Does Aurora read all my text messages?
No.
- On Android, it reads only messages from the senders you pick.
- On iPhone, it reads only the messages your Shortcuts automation passes to it.
- On your phone: messages are read there, and only the transaction details (amount, currency, shop, date, last card digits) are sent to your ledger.
- Never sent: the message text itself never reaches our servers or any AI service.
Does Aurora use AI?
AI reads the statements and receipts you send us, turns them into transactions, and suggests a category for each one. We use Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude for this.
Does AI learn from my data?
No. We use Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude only on their paid business terms, which don’t allow them to train their models on your data. We don’t train AI models on your records either.
You can read those terms yourself: Google’s Gemini API terms for paid services and Anthropic’s Commercial Terms of Service.
What does the AI Money Buddy see?
It answers your questions using our help articles and short summaries from the ledger you have open, such as an account’s balance or a budget’s status.
- Never sees: full account numbers, other households, or other members’ conversations.
- Never changes anything: it only reads.
- Kept 30 days: conversations are then deleted, and you can delete them sooner.
How long do you keep my statement files and receipts?
- Statement files: deleted as soon as the import is done, or after 35 days at most if the import is still waiting.
- Receipt photos and forwarded receipts: kept 180 days as proof of purchase, then deleted.
- Your transactions: stay in your ledger until you delete them.
What is price sharing? Is it on by default?
It is off by default. If you turn it on, the prices from receipts you scan (product, price, shop and area) are shared anonymously, and you can then search what things cost nearby.
- Never shared: your name, account, exact date or address, and no health, pharmacy, alcohol or tobacco items.
- Shown only with 3 or more households: a price appears only once at least 3 households have shared it.
Where is my data stored, and which laws protect it?
Your data is stored in Singapore. Aurora is run by Jalhaja Technology Limited in Hong Kong, and we follow Hong Kong’s PDPO, Singapore’s PDPA, the EU and UK GDPR, and Korea’s PIPA. Read our Privacy Policy.
Plans and billing
Is there a free plan?
Yes. Free is yours to keep, with one ledger and a monthly limit on new transactions. Paid plans add more ledgers and members, plus goals, receipts, trips, investments and more. See every plan on Pricing.
Is there a free trial? Do I need a card?
Yes, 14 days of the Single plan, with no card needed. While the apps are in review, your trial doesn’t count down. Your 14 days start the day the apps are released.
What happens when my trial or plan ends?
You move to Free, and nothing is deleted.
- Features outside Free: they become read-only.
- Extra ledgers: if you have more ledgers than Free allows, you choose which one to keep and the others are archived.
- You can pick up again: upgrade any time to continue where you left off.
Which plan do I need for my partner or family?
- Couple / Expat: for two people.
- Family: for up to six people.
Everyone in a household shares the same ledgers. See Pricing.
How do I pay, and in which currency?
On the web, with a card through Stripe, in US dollars, monthly or yearly. Plans aren’t sold inside the app.
How do I cancel? Can I get a refund?
The household’s Owner cancels on the web under Manage subscription. Your plan keeps running to the end of the period you’ve paid for.
Refunds follow our refund policy:
- Monthly plans: a month you’ve started isn’t refunded.
- Yearly plans, within 14 days: ask within 14 days of buying or renewing and we refund the whole year.
- Yearly plans, after 14 days: we refund the full months you haven’t used.
To ask, e-mail [email protected]. The money goes back to the card you paid with, through Stripe.
Households and sharing
Can my partner see my personal spending?
Yes, and that’s by design. A household shares everything: every ledger, account, transaction, budget and goal is visible to every member. Aurora is built for people who manage money together, and openness is the point. There are no private ledgers or accounts inside a household.
If you’d like to keep some money private, keep it in a household of your own with its own subscription. Only questions you ask the AI Money Buddy stay private to you.
Leaving Aurora
Can I export my data?
Yes, on every plan. On the web, download every transaction in every ledger as one CSV file, which opens in Excel or Google Sheets. You can also download just the transactions you’re looking at, or one account’s history. A full export of everything (budgets, goals and rules) is coming soon.
How do I delete my account?
In Settings, or by e-mailing support. You then have 30 days to change your mind using the link we e-mail you, and we remind you about 5 days before it runs out. After that your data is permanently deleted, except anything the law requires us to keep.
What happens to my data if Aurora shuts down?
We’re building Aurora to look after your money records for a lifetime, and we intend to be here for as long as you need us. If we ever had to close it:
- Notice: we’ll give you at least 60 days’ notice by e-mail and in the app.
- Export stays open: you can download every record throughout.
- Refund: we’ll refund the unused part of any paid plan.
- Deletion: afterwards, your data is deleted as our Privacy Policy describes.
